Squash bugs should be squashed. They destroy zucchini, cucumber 🥒and all the rest of those poor plants. These bugs lay masses of shiny copper colored eggs on the underside of leaves. The nymphs pictured below are the teenager bugs. Adults look like the evil doer in the top left.
They do not sting or bite, so picking them off and squashing them can be a child's chore.
Or drop them into a cup of water with a few drops of dish soap. 🥤 ( I use DAWN, its safe for ducks 🦆)
Or if they are all stuck to one part of the leaf, cut them off. ✂
Duct tape - yes, it can even handle squash bugs, Roll a piece on your hand and then gently touch your plants affected area. ( throw this away when you are finished)
Or don't plant the squash until a bit later in the season, the parents will lay eggs on your neighbors squashes… LOL.🤣🤣
A word about diatomaceous earth. ( DIE O TOE MAcy US) Made from hard shelled organisms ground into a powder, it scratches the outside of the insect and dehydrates them.( sounds evil)
AND it's not choosy. So your butterflies and bees may die a slow horrible death as well. BOOOOO
Nasturtium plants can be planted in between, maybe it will help. If you have figured out an organic method to thwart this evil doer, weigh in !!
